Choral Evensong at St Asaph Cathedral

Described as ‘thrilling’ by Roger Fisher, St Peter’s Choir sang Choral Evensong at their Cathedral on 30th October. The newly installed Dean was extremely welcoming and has extended a second invitation.

Choral Evensong for re-dedication of the church gates

October 16th saw the re-dedication of the church’s splended, now illuminated, c.16th gates. The service started outside with an introit composed especially by Dr Litman; Then, Archdeacon Christopher Potter then dedicated and blessed the gates and the procession led into St Peter’s for a service of Choral Evensong. The canticles were sung to Noble in b minor and the anthem was Mathias’ Lift Up Ye Heads Ye Gates. Roger Fisher was the organist.

Four girls participated in the 2011 Morland Choristers Camp. They had a fantastic time by all accounts, and can be seen in the picture below (look for G’s red ribbon!)

Abergavenny Music Festival Choral Evensong

The Choral Scholars of St Peter’s Collegiate Church Choir, Ruthin sang Choral Evensong as part of the Abergavenny Music Festival at St Mary’s Priory Church, on Saturday 4th June. Music included Canticles by Batten; Stainer’s How Beautiful upon the Mountains and      Dr Ashfield’s beautiful God be in my head. The service was received with great praise and an invitation to visit Newport Cathedral to sing in the future!

BBC 1 Songs of Praise

On Friday 6th May the Old Cloisters was converted into a Victorian School Room for the afternoon. The BBC team filmed 5 scenes for a future episode on Victorian Schooling in Wales.  The choristers were asked to sing a few hymns and act, all in costume. (Thank you to choir mums and dads) It was an amazing opportunity and experience for the choristers, the episode will be aired on BBC 1 Songs of Praise on May 22nd at 4.55pm.

Choir visit to Westminster Abbey

 

On Sunday 7th November the choir were invited by the Dean of Westminster, Dr John Hall, to sing at their mother church the Collegiate Church of St Peter, Westminster (Westminster Abbey). 32 choristers made the journey from Ruthin to Westminster to sing at a special service celebrating the birth of Dean Gabriel Goodman. The choir sang hymns, psalms and Bairstow’s Save Us, O Lord to a congregation of 250!
